Informed Care is More Effective Care

What info is needed?

In any situation, whatever the circumstances, information is needed to allow us to

  • Assess the current situation
  • Assess all the factors, all the aspects, involved
  • Assess what problems we may encounter
  • Assess what our options may be
  • Assess what action, if any, is needed to enable us to cope with all aspects
  • Assess what our best response might be

Test yourself – what info do you need in the situation below?

Great aunt Julia wants to visit her daughter in Australia, also visiting a prison camp in Thailand where her late husband had been held during WW2.  She has not been in the best of health for some time.  To make the most of trip, she is willing to pay all expenses for 4 family members if they accompany her to help her during the trip.

What info do you need to best support Great Aunt Julia on this special trip?

***

In caring for a troubled or vulnerable person, whether as a professional or an informal carer in a home situation, exactly the same is true.  Informed care is much more effective than carers – professional or informal – blundering about without appropriate info trying to work out by trial and error what to do.
